Six things a proxy pricing page does that will cost you money

We read the pricing pages of 27 proxy providers and wrote down what each one does to the numbers on it. Six patterns came up often enough to be worth knowing before you compare anything. All of them cost money if you miss them.

One: the "from" price is not a price

Almost every provider leads with a figure like from $0.60 per GB. That number is real, and it is the bottom rung of a volume ladder, which usually means the largest plan the provider sells.

The amount you are actually going to buy sits several rungs up. On one provider we track, the ladder runs from $0.79/GB at the entry tier down to $0.27/GB at 100 TB. Both are true. Only one is on the marketing page, and it is not the one you will pay.

Treat every "from" and "starting at" as the answer to a question you did not ask.

Two: the ladder is often on a different page

Bright Data, IPRoyal and Oxylabs all serve a pricing hub: product cards, a starting figure, and no ladder. The real ladders live on six to nine separate pages, one per product.

This is not a small difference. Bright Data's hub showed $2.50/GB while its child pages carried a ladder reaching $0.42/GB. Reading only the hub gets you 6 of its prices when there are 32, and the one you would quote is five times the one you could pay.

If a pricing page has product cards and no numbers that change with volume, you are on the hub. Click into the product.

Three: a configurator prices nothing until you touch it

Some pages have no prices at all in the way a page normally has prices. They have a form, and the total updates as you pick options. Before you pick anything, the page reads $0.

Proxy-Seller does this on two of its products. ProxyScrape does it too, and adds a second wrinkle: its cards carry no product heading, no product in the URL, and no label on the button, so the only thing naming the product is the feature text inside the card.

Neither of those products has a price you can compare until you have filled the form in, so treat the page as quoting nothing rather than quoting zero.

Four: one page, one plan, two prices

This is the one worth checking yourself, because it was live on the vendor's own page when we read it, and it is the kind of thing that gets quietly fixed.

Webshare's pricing page renders its ladder twice, once as cards and once as a table. On the card, the 5,000-proxy tier reads:

On the table, the same tier reads $119.60. A comma in one view, a full stop in the other, same page, read on 15 August 2026.

For a human this is a typo you skim past. For a spreadsheet it is the difference between $119.60 and $11,960, because stripping the separator out of 119,60 gives 11960. Check any figure you paste somewhere.

ProxyScrape has the same class of problem with bigger numbers: its comparison table prices 10 GB at $35.50, which is $3.55/GB, while its configurator sells 5 GB at $2.85/GB. Two prices for one product, both on the vendor's own site.

Five: the product name is not always next to the price

Webshare's comparison table gives every row a checkout link, and the link names the product in its query string:

…/express-checkout?proxyType="shared"&proxySubtype="isp"&proxyCount=500

That string is the most reliable statement of what the row sells, and it is invisible unless you hover the button. Nothing in the visible row says ISP.

Froxy gives the opposite problem. Two of its ladders are byte-identical in price, which is exactly what a single relabelled product looks like. They turned out to be genuinely different: one gives 1,000 ports and filtering, the other 200 ports and address whitelisting, at the same price. We only found out by asking why two ladders agreed to the cent.

Six: check the page against its own arithmetic

The strongest test costs nothing. If a page prints a per-unit rate, an allowance and a total, the three must reconcile.

$96 ÷ 25 GB = $3.84/GB    the page says $3.84   ✓

When they do not reconcile, one of the three is decoration. We have seen yearly rows whose stated rate and stated total disagree by twelve points of discount. If a page cannot agree with itself, do not assume the bigger number is the typo.

The short version

Before comparing two providers on price:

  1. Find the ladder, not the "from" figure, and find your own volume on it.
  2. Check whether the ladder is on the page you are looking at or one click deeper.
  3. If the page has a form, the price is whatever the form says after you fill it in, and not before.
  4. Divide the total by the allowance and see whether you get the rate the page claims.

None of these six patterns is a trick, exactly. Every one of them is a defensible way to present a price, and all six happen to point the same direction: the number you remember from the page is lower than the number you will pay. That is the bias to correct for, and doing the division yourself is the whole correction.

What does 'from $2 per GB' mean on a proxy site?

It is the cheapest rung of a volume ladder, usually the largest plan sold. It is a floor, not a price, and the amount you would actually buy often costs several times more. Find the ladder before comparing anything.

Why do proxy pricing pages show different prices for the same plan?

Usually because two components render the same ladder. Webshare's pricing page prints the 5,000-proxy tier as $119,60 in its card view and $119.60 in its table view, read 15 August 2026. Same plan, same page, different separator.

Why does a proxy pricing page show $0?

Because it is a configurator, and it prices nothing until you choose options. Proxy-Seller does this on two products. The zero is a form's default state rather than an offer, and reading it as a price would put a free plan on the board.

How do I check a proxy price is real?

Do the arithmetic the page implies. If it prints a per-GB rate, an allowance and a total, then total divided by allowance should equal the rate. When those three disagree, one of them is decoration.

Where is the real price ladder usually hidden?

On a different page. Bright Data, IPRoyal and Oxylabs all serve a hub with product cards and a starting figure, and put the actual volume ladder on six to nine separate pages. The hub can be several times more expensive than the ladder.

Why does the plan not say which product it is?

Some pages name the product only in the checkout link's query string, or only in the feature bullets inside the card. If you cannot tell from the page which product a price belongs to, neither can anyone comparing it.
